Borne out of a love for minimalism and inspired by Mediterranean design and architecture, Irish artist Rebecca Calvert founded Minimal Folk in 2021. Working from her home in Belfast, Rebecca creates contemporary, textured artworks from building materials. After leaving school Rebecca had planned to pursue a career in fashion/interior design but struggling with perfectionism in her own work, she decided to drastically change her course of study into the construction industry, followed by a few years of travelling and later returning home to complete a Masters in Sustainable Development. It might have been the long way round but Rebecca now feels like she has come full circle back to her first love, bringing elements of her journey up to this point with her to create artworks inspired by her travels, her love for minimalism and a sustainable ethos she is passionate about.
